GIANT 3D Printers Make Ten Houses in Only a Day!

8057 ratings | 1317363 views
Share on Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1tNWcwW When it comes to 3D printers, size isn't an issue. A Chinese company called Winsun has used giant 3D printers to build ten houses in only a day! This technology is saving money, labor, and time, and has big implications for housing development. Are you ready to print your dream home of the future? What do you think about 3D printing? Will it democratize manufacturing, or is it spelling the doom of the consumer market? not practical on a real construction site with weather, dust, space, mud etc. Timber frame still cheaper and more practical to build on site.

I love this idea. As a 40 year construction worker and now Career and Technical Education teacher. I think we should be teaching this technology in apprenticeship and engineering programs in alternative to college schools (private, not government)

At present this machine is just waste of concrete. I mean who builds an entire house with concrete? We just build pillars and roof with concrete and rest of wall is made of bricks glued and plastered with cement.

Can 3D printers print 3D printers?
Medijine Time (4 months ago)
I believe this is the future and its coming fast. The designs of houses will be limitless, and that means the average person could spend a fraction and have a house like the 1%. You have to open your imagination to the abilities of computers and a 3D printer. Heck, with the correct materials, you could program the printer to install the wiring, plumbing, heating and even solar panels. Lets even go further, why not have it make the furniture that will go in the house. The possibilities are endless.

I think this is great. I don't think people get the meaning of human evolution. There will be no more conventional work in the future. My vision of the future is not the pursuit of wealth or material gain but the betterment of humanity. More exploration, more science, more study and meditation, more inventing, more learning and bonding between people because we will have no other choice. Envision if you will a society where you can make profit but you are not required to. A society where you are able to fill your dreams and your passions unfettered by your needs. Everyone will have better than adequate housing, better than adequate healthcare and educational opportunity. There will be work but it will be service work private and public where the needs of man will be the focal point. Star Trek, Star Wars, other futuristic societies where people get to just live and capital is not king. We all saw this coming. The future is now!

Can someone please tell me, approximately how many cubic yards of concrete is required to build each house.
Stacey Dash TV (4 months ago)
i want this fucking house gonna do it my self.
Cybair (4 months ago)
A house is not an ideal application for a 3D printer because there are too many other element that need to be integrated into and around the frame (plumbing, electricity, roofing HVAC, etc.). Moreover, esthetics matter for a home owner. However, a large 3D printer extruding concrete would be much more useful for constructing small bridges or the shore supports for small bridges. There are many specific infrastructure parts that could be extruded on site instead of making forms and pouring concrete. That's where 3D printers will first be used commercially.

One of the question about this type of building materials is how safe are they to live in. ? I am referring to the fact that a lot of these parts using these printers use polymers which are generally oil based. Which are generally very flammable.

I remember the first car (brand new wv) I bought for only $5000, the first pc for $1500. Yep true technology makes things easier to construct but in time the price will increase, brand new WV over $30000, a PC with all its gadgets, softwares, hardware, etc. over $3000. 3d printed houses is also, only on the way, to increase the price of housing, wait and see.

WiseSilverWolf (5 months ago)
Sounds good to print cheap, affordable housing to solve the lack of new Starter Home constructions in most of the USA but what I dont like about it is that if the whole house is 3D printed and 1 single combined piece instead of individual pieces of drywall laid next to each other is that if there is a crack or hole made on the wall its likely to affect a larger area since its uniframe (1 piece). One other thing that would be difficult to do would be running wires from the attic to individual rooms (for cable tv, internet, fiber optic cables, speaker cables, electricity, etc) since the walls are solid concrete instead of drywall laid on top of a wooden frame.

I was in finance and met with Dr. Koshnevis at USC in the Gerontology area. This was many years ago. I read about his work and wanted to provide him with money. He wanted a $10 million loan for R & D. My investors don't make loans for R & D. and so the loan request went nowhere. At the time, he had many problems with his gantry and system and was not ready to begin building houses. I don't think those problems have been resolved and I don't think he's yet building homes in the USA. I still love his ideas and want to see him succeed. It's good to see your video about him! Thanks!

I think it's a great idea and needs to be in the market but the unions and banks may suppress it because of money and job loss. Buckinster Fuller designed the Dymaxium house and this also happen to his idea from materializing

nightlightabcd (7 months ago)
I'm guessing that the house does not come with plumbing or electrical wiring or windows or anything else but walls. Does it even have a roof or doors? They are also quite small, about like a log cabin! How much would it cost to build walls with logs?

Once I visited a Hollow metal Door and frame company and I was so sad when I realized that the managers have fired 6 people because they bought a robot which had much more productivity than those 6 crews. This is a bad part of technology. The same thing will happen when this 3D technology becomes very popular in industry.

Many of my own family are in the construction trades. This technology would (will) eliminate or radically change their jobs. But the genie is out of the lamp; because it CAN be done, eventually it WILL be done. Just like so many other parts of a rapidly changing world, the good that this technique can bring in terms of democratization of housing, in environmental protection and time efficiency, will be good for our species and our planet overall. We are at the crossroads in utilizing technology fully. Just as agriculture freed up humans to be more creative by giving us so much more time to think and create, modern technology will free us as a species, perhaps to explore space, perhaps to new and greater intellectual and artistic achievements. Certainly 3d printed housing will improve the standard of living for millions of people. Just as bureaucrats all over the world were put out of work by computing technology, construction workers will have to adapt to this and grow and change.

Why work for 30 years to buy a stupid roof over your head.
Feynstein 100 (8 months ago)
Eh what about the foundation of the house? And concrete must be cured for 28 days to develop full strength. So you might make your house in a day but you won't get to live there for a month. Although, I guess compared to traditional construction, that's still a lot faster.

Many jobs will end and many other will be created by demand of house printer industry it will be necessary people to operate these machines to working in production line of 3D printer industry as long as 3d printers demand grows more people will be hired to increase production. Its how our modern world works innovation kill some jobs but creat many others at the same we could not stop the course of technology people from typewriter machines were worried about lose their jobs when computers came true. This technology will turn safety housing more affordable to poorest people and each one is responsible to adapt themselves to labor market tendencies those ones who don't adapt themselves could pay the consequences for their own actions

Okay, everyone. Loosen up for a moment. I came in here expecting to see something else, but to be truthful, I've got no complaints. As a 3D printer myself (albeit on a much smaller scale), I can see where this video makes sense. The narrator is just telling his audience about the future of 3D printing. If anyone is disappointed with the video, just do a Google search for 3D printed houses. I'm not in any way connected with this channel or its host, so please don't get the wrong impression, I have nothing to gain from defending this video. It's just as a 3D printer person, I found this video uplifting because I've met so many people who cannot see the true potential of 3D printing in all its aspects, just like the nay-sayers of solar energy. Just give the guy a break and do some research yourself. You may be amazed!

For all of you who think we should NOT advance because "jobs might be eliminated"- please STOP luddite thinking(Google it). Jobs opportunities will EXPAND with each new technology. Machines ALREADY make all your telecom equip. your clothes, cars and just about everything else. T H I N K about it. Those who'd restrict construction to slow (and sometimes unreliable high priced construction workers and old techniques) probably think we need: MORE disease, crime, fires and natural disasters, to keep work for doctors, police, fireman and rescue workers ! ALL of YOU- check out the age old economic concept of the "guns or butter" equation. It's merely how we handle "change"
